12-24-2009 Honey - Female - 3 or 4 years old

Adopted
10-2009 Daisy
- Female - 9 months old - Bully Breed Mix

Daisy is a sweet 9
month old bully breed mix. She just came in to us on
Sunday, May 17th, 2009. She's been fully vetted
including her spay. She's been wormed and treated for
fleas / ticks. She's a young puppy and loves to play,
but can be shy and insecure. Giving her a 10 minute
quiet time warm up with the other dogs was all it took
for her to relax though. She was introduced to the
cats this morning (5/20).. She's shown no signs of
aggression at all, just interest in the weird looking
dogs. One even went to her bowl and ate her food and
she just watched. She just wants to play. She's been
around older children, but not any young ones that we
know of. She has a very sweet nature though, and as
long as she's supervised so she doesn't knock them
over, I'm sure she'd be fine. She seems to be totally
housebroken and is pretty good on a leash. We'll start
working on basic obedience with her right away, but
she's already a wonderful dog to start with. She's a
puppy, so she does chew. So far that seems to be her
only bad habit though. She's a big snuggle bug and
just wonderful with everyone she meets.
Daisy is up-to-date with
routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

9-2009 - Mocha - Female - Young

Mocha's listing on
Dogster.com
We pulled Mocha from the shelter
because she had given up on life and decided to die.
She was at the back of the kennel all hunched over with
her back to us, nothing but bones. She’d refused to eat
or drink and wouldn’t even look when you made a sound.
We’re not sure what happened to Mocha before some
heartless human dumped her, but it couldn’t have been
good. I wasn’t sure Mocha would even make it to her vet
appointment, but we decided if she was going to die it
would be in our arms and she would feel love before
passing over.
Mocha sure has surprised us. She
rallied after her vet appointment today. She’s a sick
little girl but quickly showing improvement. She
finished her breakfast and her lunch and has been
drinking water. She’s on her antibiotics for the next
week and will be on vitamins for a while. She has
special food for the next couple weeks as well. Mocha
needs to put on some weight and get healthier before
she’s available for adoption, but the way she’s going
now that shouldn’t take too long. Her will to survive
is back with a vengeance and she’s a fighter once
again.
She's running like a mad woman
outside and playing with everyone else so well, but by
far her favorite thing to do is just snuggle. She's
totally housebroken and will use a potty pad if left
inside for longer than a few hours. She is still a very
young puppy after all. We're guessing about 14 to 16
weeks old.

Cocker
Spaniel/Beagle/Pekinese Pups

This litter of puppies was born to Maggie, our cocker
spaniel. She came to us by her owner who said she was
spayed. Unfortunately she wasn't spayed and was very
sneaky, as was the pekinese/beagle mix foster that
we'd just pulled from a shelter. By the time we
realized Maggie may be pregnant it was too late to
spay / abort the pups. She had them just a few days
later.

a young adult female JRT doxie mix. She loves to snuggle
and is a pretty mellow girl most of the time.

Clyde - Male - Beagle Mix

Clyde's Listing on
Dogster.com
We think Clyde is a beagle Pekinese
mix. He’s got the sweetest little face I’ve ever seen
on a dog with the most beautiful little Peke type coat.
He’s very affectionate and playful and incredibly
athletic. Don’t even think of putting this boy in a
yard with a fence under 4 feet high. Even though he’s
quite small he can clear fences higher than most dogs
larger than him. He loves to run and play and when the
day is done all he can think of is snuggling in bed with
his family. And he’s housebroken too!!
Adopted 8-27-2009

Yellow Lab Puppies - Males - 10 weeks old

These little lab babies weren't wanted by their humans
anymore so they dumped them in the woods at a major
intersection in town. It's amazing they didn't
venture into the road. A friend was able to get them
and keep them safe for us until we could pick them up
and we're so glad she did!
They are about 10 weeks old we're guessing, and just
as sweet, friendly, and outgoing as puppies can be.
All three are boys. Puppy A (we're trying to decide
on a name) is a gold boy with black nose, the typical
little yellow lab. Just the cutest and most
unbelievably photogenic and handsome little
thing. He's the bold one of the group; first to run
to meet a stranger.
Next is Cotton, a white boy with a couple small light
tan patches on his face and back. He's got the cutest
little spotted tummy!!! Much more reserved than the
others and would probably do just fine in a more laid
back home.
Last is Alaska. My daughter named him that because
he's got these unbelievably gorgeous blue eyes like an
Alaskan Malamute. He's quite the little show
stopper!! Very sweet and affectionate, and his
activity level seems to fall somewhere between his
brothers.
Adopted

07-2009
- Simba - Male - Chow

Simba is a show stopping
adult male chow chow with an amazing red coat and blond
highlights that I’d pay big bucks to have! He’s got the
solid blue tongue as well. He is a total lover and just
adores walks. He loves to wrestle and play with other
dogs, and has bonded well with Cooper, the lab mix puppy
we have for adoption. He's a joy to have in the house;
very easy going and laid back.
Adopted 07-2009 - Simon - 7 yr old - Male
- Cocker Spaniel
Simon is a 7 yr old black
male cocker spaniel with grey around his muzzle. Simon
was purchased as a 6 week old puppy and he and his
brother were tied to a tree and left. They got food and
water, but never any love or attention, something they
both craved. During the time Simon was tied to the tree
he tore both of his rear ACLs. His former owner never
bothered to have them repaired and they healed
improperly. He also had luxating patellas (slipping
knee caps) which also were not repaired and have left
him with arthritis under his back knees. He’s got
cataracts in both eyes and early onset glaucoma in one
eye. Because of this he’s permanently blind and needs
annual visits to a canine opthamologist.
Adopted 5-16-2009 - Gwen - Female - 5 months old - Dogo Argentino Mix
Congratulations to
Jacqueline Miller of Hillsboro, NJ on the adoption of
Gwen. Gwen will join her new mom and her new big
brother, Lazlo the Viszla, on May 16, 2009. She
couldn't have gotten a more wonderful, loving, perfect
home for her!

This is a once in a lifetime
opportunity to adopt a very rare breed in the US. Gwen
is a Dogo Argentino mix puppy that is 5 months old.
She’s wonderful with other dogs and just loves to play.
Unfortunately for poor Gweny, she has absolutely no clue
how big and strong she is, even at her young age. She’s
larger and much stronger than our full grown pit bull.
We also don’t know what in the world she’s mixed with,
but with ears like that we are guessing maybe Pharoh
Hound, but to find a mix of 2 very rare breed dogs in a
rural KY shelter where we pulled her from is just so
unlikely!!
Please read up on Dogos before
applying to adopt Gwen. She is going to be a phenomenal
dog for the right family, but she will need constant
training and a strong owner to handle her all of her
life. Dogos are Argentinian Mastiffs and can grow
to be incredibly large, powerful dogs. Gwen is off
to a great start being an phenomenal pet and excellent
protector of her family and we want to make sure that
family is right for her. Also, Gwen’s contract
will state that under no circumstances is she to have
any cosmetic surgery, by anyone including a
veterinarian, to any part of her body, including her
ears or tail. We want Gwen’s family to love her
for who she is, not who they can turn her into.
**Adopted** Jasmine - Female - 7 weeks old -
German Shepard Mix

Jasmine is just the sweetest little
German Shepherd mix puppy girl. Only 7 weeks old and
she’d been dumped in the shelter with the rest of her
litter. Could you imagine turning your back on this
tiny little face? Jasmine isn’t housebroken yet, but
she’s a smart girl and will learn fast. She loves to
play and isn’t the least bit intimidated by other dogs,
even those that are much bigger than her.
Jasmine came home with kennel
cough, very common in dogs in shelters, so she’s on
antibiotics for a week. Once she’s through that and has
been cleared by the vet – we’re guessing in the first
week of April – she’ll be available for adoption. Our
vet doesn’t feel comfortable spaying her until she’s at
least 14 weeks old, so Jasmine will have a special
adoption contract requiring you to bring her back to our
vet to be spayed and have proof of that by the time
she’s 5 months old. All costs related to the spay will
be covered by HART as part of her adoption fee.
* Adopted* Wylie - Male
-Terrier/Chihuahua Mix

We
honestly don't even have a clue what Wylie is truly
mixed with; we've never seen a dog like him in our life!
Due to the temperament and look we're just guessing at a
terrier and chihuahua mix. However, he is the sweetest
little guy and already housebroken. He's very well
behaved with other dogs and cats and just loves every
person he sees. Wiley weighs around 10 pounds and is a
young adult male. We think he may be in the 18 to 24
month range.

Adopted March 10, 2009 Oreo has a new family!!
Congratulations to Eric and Kate of Nashville, TN on
their new addition
Oreo -Border
Collie Mix - Female - Born first week of December, 2008.

Oreo was tagged to be euthanized the day
we pulled her from a high kill shelter. She was 2 months
old. Now she has a new family to love and care for her.
****************************************************************************
Adopted - Zoe - female - 10
weeks old - german shepard
Zoe
- Zoe
was an owner surrender to a TN shelter. She was due to
be euthanized at only 10 weeks old. She was the most
beautiful GSD puppy I’ve ever seen and all she wanted to
do was snuggle, snuggle, snuggle!!
Zoe was
very lucky that a wonderful woman named Susan offered to
pay for her adoption fee if someone would just give her
a home or keep her in theirs until a home was found.
When I saw sweet little Zoe’s face there was no
hesitation; I immediately told them to spring her from
puppy prison and she could stay with us as long as it
took.
I have a
good friend in northern VA that has had a tremendous
amount of luck finding homes for dogs and puppies so I
contacted her about Zoe. Michelle, being in the
incredible animal lover and giving person she is, agreed
that I could send Zoe along with the rest of the GA
group and she’d find her a home.
From the
minute Zoe arrived at my house until she made it to
Michelle’s office, every single person that met Zoe fell
madly in love with her. She soon proved that although
she was a sweet little snuggle bug, she was no pushove
r, as she immediately began rough housing with a mastiff
puppy that was 4 times her size!
Michelle
held off on finding a home for Zoe until just that right
couple came along. And of course they did! Although
Zoe will be a challenge to keep in line with her no fear
personality, she is also going to be a wonderful family
pet.
The GA
group-

When I got the
call about Zoe and called my friend Michelle to see if
she might know of anyone that was looking for a puppy
like her, she told me about a group of puppies being
pulled from a gassing shelter in Georgia. Even
the "best" gas boxes can cause conscious animals the
horror of watching others suffer from convulsions and
muscular spasms as they slowly die. Old, young, and sick
animals are particularly susceptible to gas-related
trauma and will thus die slow and highly stressful
deaths. So when Michelle said she’d agree to pull some
puppies from them and transport them to her, but needed
some help getting them up there I jumped right on the
transport band wagon.
In the group was Indy, an all black
female lab mix. Her sister Libby, a fawn colored lab
mix with a black mask. An older black male pit / lab
mix named Dennis the Menace, and although he’s a
wonderful boy now after all the training Michelle has
done, he certainly lived up to his name. And then there
was little Bosco, only 8 weeks old.
Shortly after the pups arrived in VA little Bosco became ill. He was hospitalized and
placed in puppy ICU where the found out he had a genetic
disorder that caused his organs to shut down. He was
treated and all was done, but little Bosco was just too
sick and too little, and less than a week after he
arrived the decision was made to let him go and end his
suffering. Michelle took time out of her day to be
there with him and hold him as he slowly slipped away
from this world, into the next where he can run and play
and be a healthy happy puppy.
Shortly after Bosco slipped away,
both of the girls that came in with him were adopted
into wonderful homes. Dennis’ training is continuing
and he may soon have himself a home as well.
Kabot
- Kabota was listed on a local
sales network site as a FTGH (free to good home) dog.
Many of these dogs these days are snapped up by people
that run dog fights. They use them as ‘bait dogs’ where
their jaws are broken so they can’t fight back and their
hips are broken so they can’t get away. They are thrown
in a pen with a dog that has been trained to fight to
kill and torn alive.
Kabota
was only about 12 weeks old. He looked to be a cross
between a Great Pyrenees and a Saint Bernard, just a
total puff ball. The lady that had him was pregnant and
her husband was being deployed. She had another baby at
home and a puppy on top of it was just too much for her.
She’d said that if he wasn’t adopted by Friday she’d
drop him at the pound.
I called
Friday afternoon to see if he’d been adopted yet, and he
hadn’t. I told her I’d pick him up and take him in and
find him a home. I called Michelle, my friend in VA to
see if she could help, and again as always, she said
yes. We set up a transport and left home at 4 in the
morning, heading out to meet the next person on our
trip, Mary. Mary would take him a few hours north of
her to meet the next person who would go a few hours
north, etc until Kabota finally met up with Michelle.
Just outside of Knoxville I got a call
from Mary. She and her husband had fallen in love with
Kabota from his pictures and they wanted to adopt him
themselves! Mary has done quite a few tran sports with
us and we were good friend, having met on the internet
through our love of horses. I just knew that Mary’s
family would be ideal for Kabota and saying yes was the
easiest decision I could have ever made!
Penny / Ireland
- One night on the way
home from an emergency midnight trip to the vet with a
friend’s dog, I turned the corner just to have the
cutest little ball of fur run right in front of our van.
I locked up the brakes and pulled over. A little beige
and white fluff ball came right to me. He didn’t have a
tag and was on a main highway, so I put him in the van
to take him home, figuring I’d start putting up flyers
in the morning. About the time I turned around I heard
crying from the side of the road. On the hill across
the road was another little back puppy watching me. It
took me a few minutes but I eventually coaxed her over.
We placed signs all over the place and after a month
decided they must have been strays and needed homes.
About a
month later we were getting ready for bed and noticed
that Freddy, the fluffy male was missing. We searched
everywhere to find him in the road. He’d found some way
out of the house and been hit by a car. The loss of
Freddy was devastating to us, as we’d really become
close to him.
Nonetheless, Penny needed a home and we continued to
look around. Once again, Michelle stepped in and we set
up her transport. Penny went to20an interview with the
Maryland State Police in the hopes we could get her
adopted out as a working dog. She’d shown great
abilities in tracking and I was pretty excited that I
might be able to adopt out my very first working K9!
Unfortunately Penny would’ve eaten a turd off the back
of a tortoise so she wasn’t qualified to be a working
dog. It turned out to be a wonderful thing for her
though, as an incredible couple came along that were
interested in her. After a couple visits they adopted
her and renamed her Ireland. She’s been a much loved
part of their family ever since and goes every place
they do!

Sasquatch
- While getting ready for work one day a neighbor called
and asked if we could take in another dog. Someone had
dropped off a Great Pyrenees in their yard and they had
dog-aggressive pets so they couldn’t keep him. I tried
to locate a GP rescue group to take him as we had our
hands full, but when I couldn’t find one at the moment
and the neighbors were going to take him to the shelter,
I relented and had them bring him over.
Sasquatch
as we called him, was all love and fur. Over 120 pounds
of it! We did ultimately find a GP rescue who was
willing to list him as a courtesy posting. We got a call
a few weeks later from them saying someone was
interested in him. They lived on a farm in KY and had
just lost their male after a long illness. The female
they had was depressed and lonely and they’d been
looking for one to take the place of their male. We
gladly went to meet them and they were just wonderful
people. Sasquatch took right to them, even jumped right
in their car, all ready to go to his new home!

Dani - Dani was
another FTGH dog on the internet. Her ad said she was
pure bred but not registered. They'd bought her to breed
her but she'd never gotten pregnant so they threw her in
a pen at the back of their property and started feeling
bad that she never got any attention so they were
looking to find her a home.
I called them and told them I wanted her and drove to
the north part of the state. When I picked her up I was
told she was 8 or 9 years old and that I should breed
her quick if I could so I could make some money off her
puppies; make her earn her keep. I was livid that people
really think this way. As if being a loyal and devoted
family member even though you've thrown her out in a pen
and given her no attention isn't bad enough, you expect
her to earn her keep by providing you with puppies at
her age, which could kill her??
Thanks to a local OES rescue group, we were able to get
her moved up with them and they very quickly found her a
wonderful home. I don't have any cleaned up pictures of
Dani, just what was sent to me by her former owners.
That's the condition that most of the dogs we take in
come to us in.

Dot - On my way home
from work one night, driving through Woodbury, I24 I saw
a tiny little red and white beagle in the parking lot of
the local Police Department. I pulled into the gas
station next door and went in to pay for gas and ask
about the dog. They said a woman and young boy pulled
up that morning and dumped her. The mom opened the door
and tossed her out. The boy got out crying and calling,
but the mom made him get back in the car and they drove
off without her.
It took me a good 15 minutes
sitting in the PD parking lot before I could catch her.
So, if you work for Woodbury PD, no it wasn’t a crazy
lady! I took her home and through a friend on line I
found her a home. One friend was moving from Maryland
to Utah and the other friend flew out to help her drive
out there. They stopped in TN on the way to pick her up
and off to her new home in Utah she20went, where her new
best friend was a mastiff mix that was over 100 pounds!
Cocoa -
Shortly after moving to TN I
got a call from my husband at work one day. He said a
red and white dog walked in the yard and wouldn’t leave.
They wound up tying her up so she wouldn’t get hit by a
car and then went door to door trying to find her a
home. No one claimed her, so we started looking to
friends to see if anyone wanted to adopt her.
Again, through friends on
line, I found her a home. A friend in Oklahoma had a
male pit bull=2 0she’d trained in search and rescue
work. Her mother had become interested in SAR as well
and they were looking for a dog they could train. Cocoa
was perfect for them. She was a beautiful red and white
border collie / pit bull mix. So the friend drove all
the way over from OK to pick her up and take her back
home where she was trained and started working as a SAR
dog.
